About Facelift Surgery

A deep plane facelift can target many problem areas, including:

  • Lines and wrinkles that appear between the nose and mouth
  • Loose skin on the neck and chin
  • Saggy cheeks, slackening jawline, and/or jowl development
  • Creases below the eyes

If receiving a facelift in Tampa, potential patients must note that while the purpose of a facelift is to reverse the signs of aging, it will not stop the natural aging process; it will only delay it.

What Does A Facelift Include?

A standard facelift in Tampa includes addressing both the midface and the neck. If only one of these areas is of concern to you, then you can certainly customize a procedure to have a dedicated mini-facelift for the mid-face or an isolated necklift. A standard facelift does not include eyelid surgery or brow surgery but those can be discussed and combined with a facelift procedure if warranted. In addition, a very powerful adjunct to facelift surgery is facial fat grafting to permanently replace lost facial volume. Dr. Buchanan is an expert in facial fat grafting and often uses this advanced technique along with facial cosmetic procedures to create beautiful and natural results.

Am I a Good Candidate for a Facelift?

A deep plane facelift can provide many benefits and enhancements for a patient, but it is important to set realistic goals and expectations for the procedure's outcome. You may be a good candidate for a facelift if:

  • You desire tighter, smoother skin around the face, neck, or jawline.
  • You have good skin elasticity. This procedure involves the pulling and stretching of the skin. Good skin elasticity increases the likelihood of a smooth appearance once completely healed.
  • You are a nonsmoker. If you smoke, most plastic surgeons will ask that you stop smoking entirely or stop smoking six weeks prior to your procedure, as well as six weeks post-operation.
  • You are in good health overall. This procedure requires a period of healing. Ideally, the patient would not have any medical conditions that would impair or complicate the healing process. If you suffer from a chronic medical condition, it's best to speak to your primary care physician to see if this procedure is right for you.

If you believe you are a good candidate for a facelift based on the qualifications outlined above, we suggest you schedule a consultation with Dr. Buchanan to discuss the possibility of a facelift and the added benefits it could bring to your life.

What Will My Facelift Recovery Look Like?

While recovery from this procedure can vary from patient to patient depending on the complexity of the surgery, we usually suggest a minimum of 1-2 weeks off of work in order to rest and heal. If your facelift was combined with another procedure, such as a brow lift, fat transfer, or eyelid surgery, you should allow for more time off. If you have a prolonged procedure, you may need to stay overnight in a care facility or arrange for overnight nursing care in your home or hotel. We are happy to help you arrange this if needed or desired.

Immediately following surgery, patients are sent home (or to a care facility) with bandages around the face and neck that will help to mitigate swelling in addition to surgical drains to remove fluid buildup from the surgical site. However, you can still expect severe swelling and bruising that generally lasts about 1-2 weeks. It is critical to keep the head elevated during this time in order to decrease swelling and bruising, which will aid in the healing process. It is extremely important to continue following Dr. Buchanan’s care instructions and always attend scheduled follow-up appointments.

How Long Will My Results Last After My Facelift?

Results of a facelift are visible immediately, and as you maintain healthy skin care practices, such as regular sun protection and moisturizing, results can last long term. A good facelift procedure performed by a skilled surgeon in Tampa should last 10-15 years. With age, your skin will naturally lose some of its elasticity; however, subsequent laxity and sagging will be far less severe than before your surgery.

How Much Does A Facelift Cost? Prices starting at $20,000

The cost of a facelift in Tampa surgery varies significantly depending on the complexity of your case. Health insurance companies do not cover facelift surgery because it is considered a cosmetic enhancement procedure.

It’s important to note that the total cost of the procedure can include:

  • Anesthesia fees
  • Operating room costs
  • Compression garments for post-surgery
  • Surgeon Fees

Other miscellaneous fees that may not be included in the cost can include:

  • Blood tests or other pre-operative testing
  • Medical clearance exams
  • Prescription medications

Additionally, the cost of the procedure can be affected by the following circumstances:

  • The amount of experience and overall reputation of your surgeon. You’ll find that surgeons with many years of experience, or that are highly regarded, will typically cost more.
  • The techniques the surgeon uses for the procedure and the complexity of the case.
Where your surgeon’s practice is located. Typically, larger cities have higher operational costs and are more expensive.

If you’ve considered a facelift, but feel like you are limited financially, speak to Dr. Buchanan or one of the VIVIFY staff members about financing options. We do our best to work with each patient by offering financing plans to help you achieve your surgical goals.

Finding the Right Plastic Surgeon for Your Facelift

While searching for a potential plastic surgeon, you should only consider a surgeon board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS). Board-certified surgeons spend a minimum of 6-8 years in training after medical school to ensure that they are well-trained in aesthetic and reconstructive plastic surgery.

What is a Deep Plane Facelift?

A deep plane facelift is a surgical procedure that is used to lift and tighten the skin on the face and neck. It is a more complex procedure than a traditional facelift, but it can produce more natural-looking results.

A deep plane facelift is performed under general anesthesia. The surgeon makes incisions in the hairline, behind the ears, and in front of the ears. The skin is then lifted and the underlying tissues are repositioned. The surgeon may also remove excess skin and fat. The deep plane facelift is a more invasive procedure than a traditional facelift, but it can produce more natural-looking results. This is because the surgeon is able to reposition the underlying tissues, rather than just lifting the skin.

The recovery time for a deep plane facelift is typically longer than for a traditional facelift. Patients can expect to experience bruising, swelling, and pain. The incisions will also take several weeks to heal. Deep plane facelifts are typically performed on people who are in good health and who have realistic expectations about the procedure.

They are not a good option for people who have a history of smoking, sun damage, or medical conditions that affect the skin. Here are some of the benefits of a deep plane facelift:

  • Can produce more natural-looking results than a traditional facelift
  • Can address sagging skin and jowls
  • Can improve the appearance of the neck
  • Can last longer than a traditional facelift

Here are some of the risks of a deep plane facelift:

  • Bruising
  • Swelling
  • Pain
  • Infection
  • Bleeding
  • Scarring
  • Nerve damage
  • Unnatural-looking results

If you are considering a deep plane facelift, it is important to talk to a board-certified plastic surgeon to discuss the risks and benefits of the procedure.

How is a Deep Plane Facelift Different?

A deep plane facelift and a SMAS facelift are both surgical procedures that are used to lift and tighten the skin on the face and neck. However, there are some key differences between the two procedures. A deep plane facelift is a more complex procedure than a SMAS facelift. It involves lifting the skin and the underlying tissues, including the SMAS. This allows the surgeon to reposition the tissues more precisely, which can produce more natural-looking results.

However, a deep plane facelift is also a more invasive procedure, and it typically has a longer recovery time. A SMAS facelift is a less invasive procedure than a deep plane facelift. It only involves lifting the SMAS, which is a layer of tissue that lies beneath the skin. This can still produce significant results, but it may not be as effective as a deep plane facelift for people with severe sagging skin.

Ultimately, the best type of facelift for you will depend on your individual needs and goals. If you are looking for the most natural-looking results, a deep plane facelift may be the best option. However, if you are looking for a less invasive procedure with a shorter recovery time, a SMAS facelift may be a better choice.

Here is a table that summarizes the key differences between deep plane facelift and SMAS facelift:

Feature Deep plane facelift SMAS facelift
Incisions Made in the hairline, behind the ears, and in front of the ears Made in the hairline and behind the ears
Tissues lifted Skin and underlying tissues, including the SMAS SMAS only
Recovery time Longer Shorter
Results More natural-looking Less natural-looking

It is important to talk to a board-certified to discuss your individual needs and goals before deciding which type of facelift is right for you.
