What Is Capsular Contracture?

Capsular contracture is a condition where scar tissue around a breast implant tightens and may cause discomfort or changes in appearance. Breast implant revision is a surgical procedure to remove and/or replace existing implants and may be performed to address this condition or to change implant size or shape.

Capsular Contracture Clinical Study

We are participating in a clinical research study evaluating different approaches to revision
surgery for capsular contracture.

Participants in this study will undergo revision surgery and will be randomly assigned to one of
two treatment groups. One group may involve the use of surgical mesh. The purpose of the
study is to evaluate outcomes of these approaches.

How Breast Revision Surgery Can Help

Breast revision surgery offers effective solutions for capsular contracture and other implant-related concerns. At Vivify Plastic Surgery, Dr. Buchanan carefully evaluates the condition of the implants, surrounding tissue, and implant pocket to determine the most appropriate surgical approach.

Depending on the severity of capsular contracture and the patient’s goals, revision surgery may involve removing or releasing the scar tissue capsule (capsulectomy), replacing or removing the implant, or adjusting the implant pocket. In some cases, implants that were originally placed above the chest muscle may be repositioned beneath the muscle to help reduce recurrence and improve overall breast shape and feel.

Additional Reasons for Breast Revision

In addition to capsular contracture, breast revision surgery can address a variety of other concerns, including implant rupture, rippling, asymmetry, implant shifting, or changes related to aging, pregnancy, or weight fluctuations. Revision procedures at Vivify are fully customized to help restore balance, comfort, and confidence.
