Chemical peels clear away damaged, dead skin cells with the application of a customized peel on the skin that causes the surface layer to slough off. How Do Chemical Peels Work?

A team member at VIVIFY Med Spa can evaluate your skin in our Tampa, FL office before selecting the perfect chemical peel for you. Chemical peel patients typically have noticeable problems on their skin, including scaly patches, flaky skin, discoloration, sun spots, fine lines, wrinkles, and much more. We can recommend varying strengths of peels to meet your needs.

Depending on the level of the peel you have, you can expect the treated area to peel and itch from several days to a couple of weeks. Michelle Buchanan or a member of her team will go over methods to care for your face during your procedure. You will relax in a comfortable position, and we will ensure the skin is cleansed prior to applying the personalized solution to the face and/or neck.

We will spread the solution onto your face and let it work for a predetermined length of time. Then, we will clean the solution off your skin and apply a neutralizing agent. You should bring a light sunscreen and a hat to wear outside following the procedure to avoid sun exposure. Please keep in mind that no matter how badly your skin itches during the healing process, it's never good to peel the skin off. Picking at your skin could result in scarring.

What level should I choose for my chemical peel?

Which level of chemical peel is best for you will depend on your unique skin needs and cosmetic goals. During your initial consultation with Michelle Buchanan, she can help you decide which formula is best for your skin. A few factors you may consider are your overall health, the type of skin you have, the depth of your skin concerns, how long you can spend in recovery, and what concerns you have about the appearance of your skin. Initially, it may be better to select a light chemical peel and see what you think of the results. From there, you might tweak your treatment plan to decide the best chemical peel level for your needs.

Will my face hurt afterward?

Depending on the peel used, you may have mild discomfort throughout the treatment and shortly after. If you get a lighter peel, you will probably feel some stinging; however, this goes away quickly with the use of a small fan. Medium and deep peels are better for deeper issues and give you longer-lasting results, but they are usually cause greater discomfort. Topical anesthetics, medications, and ointments can be used to minimize your discomfort during your chemical peel. Michelle Buchanan or a member of her team will discuss skin care after your chemical peel to extend your results.
