About Blepharoplasty

Blepharoplasty can address eyelid drooping, puffiness, under-eye bags, and excess wrinkles or fine lines. This procedure can also improve a patient’s vision by correcting upper eyelid drooping, which can sometimes impair a patient’s sight.

Am I a Good Candidate for Eyelid Surgery?

You may be a good candidate for eyelid surgery if you’re experiencing any of the following:

  • Eyelid puffiness
  • Eyelid drooping that impairs vision
  • Heavy or excess bags under the eyes
  • Deep wrinkles or grooves in the eye area

We also recommend that patients considering the procedure be:

  • Free of medical eye conditions such as glaucoma or dry eye: this procedure may make the symptoms of those conditions worse
  • Healthy and nonsmokers: if you smoke, you may have to stop smoking entirely or stop smoking six weeks before your procedure, as well as six weeks post-operation

If you believe you are a good candidate for a blepharoplasty based on the qualifications outlined above, we suggest you schedule a consultation with Dr. Buchanan to discuss your aesthetic concerns along with the possibility of eyelid surgery and the added benefits it could bring to your life.

What Will My Recovery Look Like?

After your surgery, your eyes will be covered with gauze; in some cases, they may be loosely taped up to keep the desired shape intact. Moderate to severe swelling is expected, as well as bruising, dry eyes, and general discomfort, which can be mitigated with cold compresses and medication prescribed by Dr. Buchanan prior to the surgery. Eyeglasses can be worn after the gauze is removed. However, we recommend waiting at least two weeks before wearing contact lenses. You may experience some sensitivity to light. It’s helpful to keep a pair of dark sunglasses accessible when exposed to the sun or other light sources. Swelling can last up to six weeks but usually subsides rapidly within the first week, and bruising is usually gone by 1-2 weeks. Patients can expect to see their final results six weeks post-surgery.

How Long Will My Results Last?

Most patients will see the results of their blepharoplasty by about six weeks post-surgery. Results from eyelid surgery are long-term and can last up to 15 years or more, depending on your specific procedure. In order to prolong your results, it is vital to maintain a healthy lifestyle and daily practices to delay the natural aging process. Proper sun protection, a daily skincare regimen, and diet and exercise are all lifestyle habits that help keep signs of aging at bay.

How much will my eyelid surgery cost? Prices starting at $4,000

The cost of a eyelid surgery in Tampa varies significantly depending on the complexity of your case. Health insurance companies typically do not cover eyelid surgery because it is considered a cosmetic enhancement procedure.

It’s important to note that the total cost of the procedure can include:

  • Anesthesia fees
  • Operating room costs
  • Compression garments for post-surgery
  • Surgeon Fees

Other miscellaneous fees that may not be included in the cost can include:

  • Blood tests or other pre-operative testing
  • Medical clearance exams
  • Prescription medications

Moreover, several factors can influence the overall cost of the blepharoplasty procedure, including:

  • The amount of experience and overall reputation of your surgeon. You’ll find that surgeon’s with many years of experience, or that are highly regarded, will typically cost more.
  • The techniques the surgeon uses for the procedure and the complexity of the case.
Where your surgeon’s practice is located. Typically, larger cities have higher operational costs and are more expensive.

If you have considered eyelid surgery but have financial limitations, we recommend discussing financing options with Dr. Buchanan or any of the dedicated VIVIFY staff members. Our team is committed to working with each patient by offering financing plans tailored to help them achieve their surgical goals.
